A former kickboxing star, Adesanya made his MMA debut in 2012. Joining the UFC in 2018, Adesanya is 11-1 with the promotion. He beat Kelvin Gastelum in 2019 for the interim UFC middleweight title. That same year, he beat Robert Whittaker via KO to win the actual title.
Adesanya has defended the title four times, beating the likes of Yoel Romero, Paulo Costa, Marvin Vettori, and Whittaker. The Whittaker rematch took place in February.
Cannonier made his pro debut in 2011. An AFC heavyweight champion, Cannonier lost his UFC debut in 2015. He is 8-5 with the promotion. At 5-1 over his past six fights, Cannonier is on a two-fight win streak. His last fight was a knockout win over Derek Brunson in February.
