The threats came via social media, something Kennedy says he’s used to as a high-profile former member of U.S. Special Forces and currently a sergeant with the Texas National Guard.
“Apparently a couple of them were legitimate in trying to, from what the FBI said, plan stuff,” Kennedy told the Army Times. “They said, ‘Are you aware of this stuff?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ They said, ‘We think this is somewhat credible.’"
Kennedy, 36, said he receives five to 10 threats a day from “military trolls.”
He’s currently the No. 6-ranked middleweight in the UFC with an 18-5-0 record. Victories over MMA stars Michael Bisping and Robbie Lawler are among his most impressive wins.
In addition to serving as a Green Beret, Kennedy holds a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu. He was awarded the Army’s Bronze Star and honored for valor under fire. While assigned with Special Forces, Kennedy was a sniper and sniper instructor.
