After making history the Irishman announced that he will be taking on an even more challenging task away from the Octagon, as he is set to welcome his first child into the world this summer.

UFC President Dana White has since announced that McGregor won’t be returning until after his child was born. White was quoted as saying:

McGregor’s time off won’t come without controversy, however, as the two weight class champion has yet to defend the featherweight title that he won almost a year ago.

He doesn’t want her having any of that stress while she’s pregnant. He’s good. He should take time off. He’s been fighting nonstop. Nothing wrong with him taking time off.

It’s good for him and her and it’s good for the baby.”

With perennial featherweight contenders Max Holloway and Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis set to clash with one another in one of the division’s most important fights at UFC 206, McGregor’s next opponent could very well come out of that contest.

The heavy-handed Irishman’s new championship weight class is full of dangerous contenders as well. The undefeated grappling specialist Khabib Nurmagomedov is awaiting his shot at UFC gold, while the surging Tony ‘El Cucuy’ Ferguson has an impressive nine-fight win streak in the division as well.

Whoever the UFC decides to book McGregor against next, it will certainly be a tough bout for the ‘Notorious’ one.
